On Giving Hearts Day, match funding from generous donors magnifies the impact of your giving! More than one-third of students in Moorhead Area Public Schools are eligible for free or reduced-price meals, but this program doesn’t cover the cost for elementary milk and snack break or fill the gaps when families’ financial situations change and are unable to pay for meals. We invite you to give back on Giving Hearts Day, Thursday, Feb. 9 to the Moorhead Schools Legacy Foundation’s Food for Thought Campaign. We are excited to be part of this amazing event, sponsored by Dakota Medical Foundation, Impact Foundation and the Alex Stern Family Foundation. To make a secure online contribution that day, go to www.givingheartsday.org. Give from the heart, and help the Moorhead Schools Legacy Foundation gift the needed funds to provide milk/snack and meals to those students and families in need! The Moorhead Schools Legacy Foundation was awarded a prestigious $10,000 matching Alex Stern Family Foundation Grant in November 2016.
The grant provides much-needed operational funds for the Moorhead Schools Legacy Foundation to begin its work of making an impact in the Moorhead Schools community by enhancing the school district’s programs and facilities and creating an endowment for the future. The matching grant was made possible in part by generous donations from supportive community members and from local businesses, including Gehrtz Construction Services, JT Lawn Service, LLC. and Kevin’s Car Care, Inc., that support Moorhead Area Public Schools. In its inaugural year, the Moorhead Schools Legacy Foundation Board of Directors hosted an August kickoff event to launch the 152 Club to community members. Hosted at the home of board member Corey and Brenda Elmer, the night of fun and fundraising benefited the Moorhead Schools Legacy Foundation.
Community members donated $152 per couple to help establish the newly named 152 Club in honor of Moorhead Area Public Schools — Independent School District 152. The tremendous response has created momentum going forward to begin building a solid resource base for students in academics, athletics, arts and activities. Funds raised through the Moorhead Schools Legacy Foundation will provide all students in our schools with opportunities for life-changing experiences that are the hallmarks of an education at Moorhead Area Public Schools and will carry the school district to even greater heights. |
