The Moorhead Legacy Education Foundation announced their gift of $50,000 to Moorhead Schools at their 4th Annual SpudTacular Gala. The gift was made possible by a $10,000 grant from Alex Stern Family Foundation, a $3,000 grant from West Central Initiative's Resiliency Fund, a $4,500 Agri Farm to School grant funded through FM Area Foundation, and generous donors. Monies help fund Food For Thought, a program of MLEF, which provides milk and snack to students in need of assistance. To date, the Legacy Foundation has distributed over $80,000 to Moorhead Area Public Schools for Food For Thought.

The Alex Stern Family Foundation historically provided grants giving much-needed operational funds for MLEF. The original grant funds allowed the Legacy Foundation to continue its work of making an impact in the Moorhead Schools community by enhancing the school district’s programs and facilities and creating an endowment for the future.
 
With the help of grants and generous donors, MLEF has been able to provide over $80,000 to Moorhead Area Public Schools' food and nutrition services to support elementary milk and snack break at the district’s elementary schools.

For the past two years, the Alex Stern Family Foundation provided grants giving much-needed operational funds for the Moorhead Schools Legacy Foundation. The grant funds allowed the Legacy Foundation to continue its work of making an impact in the Moorhead Schools community by enhancing the school district’s programs and facilities and creating an endowment for the future.
 
In 2018, more than 180 donors raised $13,900 for the Legacy Foundation’s Food For Thought campaign to provide students in need in Moorhead Area Public Schools with milk/snack and meals. In 2017, donors from the community made it possible for the Moorhead Schools Legacy Foundation to donate more than $9,500 to Moorhead Area Public Schools food and nutrition services to support elementary milk and snack break at the district’s elementary schools.
 
The Legacy Foundation held its second annual SpudTacular Gala in September 2018, and this fall awarded $5,000 in Spud Student Impact grants to teachers in the Moorhead Schools. The foundation is preparing for its third Giving Hearts Day in February 2019 in support of its Food For Thought campaign to support milk, snack and meals for students in need.

Moorhead Schools Legacy Foundation was awarded $1,500 for the Food for Thought campaign through the Walmart Foundation's Community Grant Program at Sam's Club, Moorhead. Each year, Walmart awards grants to local organizations like  Moorhead Schools Legacy Foundation that are making a difference on key issues in communities where Walmart Stores, clubs and distribution center associates live and work. 

The Moorhead Schools Legacy Foundation wants students to be able to focus and learn better in the classroom so the Food for Thought campaign raises funds to support milk and snack break for all elementary students in need.

On Feb. 9, Moorhead Schools Legacy Foundation’s Food for Thought campaign was part of Giving Hearts Day 2017, co-hosted by Dakota Medical Foundation, Impact Foundation and the Alex Stern Family Foundation. 
 
Donors from the community made it possible for the Moorhead Schools Legacy Foundation to donate $9,530 to Moorhead Area Public Schools food and nutrition services to support K-5 elementary milk and snack break at the district’s elementary schools.
