2020's Gala went virtual! MLEF's 4th Annual SpudTacular Gala returned on October 20th. The event went LIVE at 7pm from the TAK Music Venue thanks to Production Sponsor, Livewire, and our generous sponsors listed on our Events page. A limited number of take-and-bake meals were available for public purchase and a link was provided to view the gala online. Viewers submitted photos of their virtual experience to MLEF's slideshow (below). The experience included a delivered drink and meal package for Sponsors and Meal Ticket holders, entertainment by Moorhead's Apollo Strings, a silent auction, and an update on what the Legacy Foundation has done for Moorhead Area Public Schools in the last year. The 2020 Spud Impact Teacher Grant winners were also announced, as well as MLEF's $50,000 gift to the district to fund milk and snacks through Food For Thought. Donations help support the educational experience of all students in Moorhead Schools. Help us empower students to shine and impact tomorrow with your Calendar and Gala Sponsorship next year! In July 2019, each board of directors voted unanimously to merge as one entity, called Moorhead Legacy Education Foundation. MAEF has primarily provided graduating seniors with scholarships and teachers with grants through funding from endowed funds. MSLF has been providing teacher grants within Moorhead Schools and holding fundraising events to pay for snack/milk breaks for current elementary students in the district. Together, the newly merged board of directors aims to address the needs of students in grades K-12 and beyond, while also supporting the staff and facilities of Moorhead Area Public Schools. MAEF President Lisa Staiger said, “Together we can do more for the students and teachers of Moorhead Public Schools. Our goals are bigger, and we believe our reach will be higher now that we have merged to form Moorhead Legacy Education Foundation.” The announcement of the merger was made at the Moorhead Schools all-staff assembly on Aug. 26. The merged foundation’s first joint event will be the SpudTacular Gala, with entertainment by Post Traumatic Funk Syndrome, on Oct. 5. Tickets and sponsored tables are available for purchase at www.MoorheadLegacy.org. The new Moorhead Legacy Education Foundation board will have 12 members under the executive leadership of Janelle Leiseth, Chair; Lisa Staiger, Vice Chair; Heidi Gregoire, Secretary; and Pete Larson, Treasurer. In its inaugural year, the Moorhead Schools Legacy Foundation Board of Directors hosted an August kickoff event to launch the 152 Club to community members. Hosted at the home of board member Corey and Brenda Elmer, the night of fun and fundraising benefited the Moorhead Schools Legacy Foundation.
Community members donated $152 per couple to help establish the newly named 152 Club in honor of Moorhead Area Public Schools — Independent School District 152. The tremendous response has created momentum going forward to begin building a solid resource base for students in academics, athletics, arts and activities. Funds raised through the Moorhead Schools Legacy Foundation will provide all students in our schools with opportunities for life-changing experiences that are the hallmarks of an education at Moorhead Area Public Schools and will carry the school district to even greater heights. |
